Completion Checklist

Along with your prepped Flight Plan, bring the following calculations (completed) to your nav day:
Your Instructor will check them over

– End of daylight calculation for YRED, based on the date of the flight
– Weight and Balance calculation for your aircraft. (yourself, full fuel, your baggage)
– Take-off and Landing Distance required for YDAY & YBAF

Preparation

Before your Briefing:

Your Instructor will expect you to have already researched the following points and brief him/her of your plans:

  • Fuel Requirements
  • Archerfield Inbound / Outbound
  • Archerfield departure into Amberley Airspace (specific procedure)
  • Amberley procedures
  • Dalby arrival procedures
  • Oakey military CTR procedures (obtaining clearance for transit)
  • Redcliffe departure / arrival procedure

Other Notes:

– Try to utilise a range of navigational equipment during your Nav-Ex. For example: Use GNSS for one leg, NDB for another, and Dead Reckoning for the majority.
– It’s your job to self-assess your performance and try to improve it. Hopefully you’ll come away from this Nav-Ex having polished your skills and learned a few things.

Instructor’s Tips

  • This will be covered during your Briefing, but it’s worth saying again: Have a detailed plan ready in case you cannot gain clearance into Amberley Airspace.
  • When returning from Dalby, you’ll notice that your FPT will pass through Oakey airspace. You’ll also need to gain a clearance for this section of the nav.
