Your aim should be to complete your 7 exams as early as possible. There is an expectation during your CPL training that you will be able to apply all the knowledge gained to your nav-ex’s and lessons, so leaving exams until the end of your CPL is not an option.

For most students, Phase 2 (Exams) and Phase 3 (Hour Building) go hand-in-hand and are completed together.

A large number of students choose to self-study the CPL theory subjects and do very well as a result. However, if you would like to complete subjects to an ordered schedule or have trouble with self-motivation to study, you can consider a Bob Taits Aviation Theory School

Do not underestimate the study required to gain a successful mark in each exam. Each subject can be self-studied and completed in as little as 2-3 weeks if studying full time, but for the average person it could take up to 6 months to complete all seven exams around life’s other commitments.

You will be given a Knowledge Deficiency Report on the completion of each Exam, outlining any incorrect answers and referencing the Day VFR Syllabus. You must write information on all of the items you have been found deficient in, for all seven exams. This will be checked on your Pre-test day – Here’s some incentive to get a higher mark, less KDRs!
