Phase 4: CPL General Handling
To reach this stage of your Commercial Licence training, you should have now completed Phase 1, 2 and 3. Hopefully your experiences during hour building have allowed you to hone your skills and build confidence so that you are ready for the challenge that lies ahead.
Phase 4, General Handling, will see you stepping up and learning a new degree of precision and efficiency that only a Commercial Pilot can demonstrate. A number of the Phase 4 Lessons may seem reminiscent of your RPL syllabus, but rest assured, the tolerances and techniques you’ll need to learn and demonstrate are now tighter than ever.
Once you’ve completed the Phase 4 Lessons to the required standard, your skills can be carried into the navigation phase.
The General Handling Lessons
By now you will have already completed Com-Nav 1, as it’s a requirement before conducting hour-building exercises. Before you continue with Nav-Ex training, you will need to complete the Gen-Handling component and demonstrate competency in aircraft handling to a CPL standard.
The following links outline the Phase 4 Lessons:
(note, some Instrument Flight Lessons can be excluded if the student holds a NVFR Rating, see links for details)
Ensure that you review each lesson BEFORE arriving on the day! You will be expected to know the acceptable tolerances for each lesson you fly along with the specific aircraft procedures to be practiced during that lesson. Eg: CPL123 is an emergencies lesson in a C182, ensure you know ALL the emergency procedures and checks before arriving to this lesson.
