Exam Preparation
Along with the practical side of your flying training, comes the theoretical side and the requirement to pass some multiple choice exams to gain your RPL Licence.
This page offers some perspective on the exams you will sit, and even some practice questions as well.
To book an exam, simply chat with an Instructor about a suitable time. A one hour slot is usually enough for all exams except the BAK. Exams can be conducted before or after your normal lesson with prior arrangement.
Rainy days where your flying lesson has been cancelled are the perfect opportunity to get an exam out of the way.
The RPL Questionnaire is required to be completed by your RPL PreTest day. It is a series of questions to confirm that your knowledge is sound prior to attempting the RPL. Print a copy (link to the right) and type your answers in a Word Doc.
Summary of Exams
The exams are administered at the Redcliffe Aero Club using a computer, where the Student answers the on-screen questions by clicking the most correct multi-choice option.
Questions can be skipped and returned to later. Answers can be changed until the time limit expires or the exam is submitted by the Student.
All RPL Exams are open-book and the following approved publications are provided by Redcliffe Aero Club for the duration of the exam:
– Airservices Australia’s Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) – Aeronautical Information Package (AIP)

Instructor’s Tips
- Have someone in your family mark your practice exams so you cannot learn the correct answers to the questions while you are marking it. This will ensure you take the time to research incorrectly answered questions
- The results you achieve in practice exams are a good indicator of how you’ll do in the real exam
- Get your exams out of the way early!
- Read the questions CAREFULLY, they can be tricky
